New research shows:
ÖkoFEN pellet boilers can save over 100,000 tonnes of CO2
Since about 15 years pellet heating boilers are available in Austria
ÖkoFEN, located in Niederkappel, Austria, produced the first officially tested pellet heating. In a recent emissions analysis, ÖkoFEN has determined the current savings of the past 2 years through the use of pellets. Overall, 100,000 tonnes of CO2 could be saved by 12,000 boilers which has been set in operation by ÖkoFEN Europe in the last two years. That is equivalent to driving about 600 Mio. Kilometers with a avarage car!
“This result shows the tremendous saving potential through the use of pellet heating systems” says CEO and founder of ÖkoFEN Herbert Ortner.
Pellet heating systems offer the greatest potential for savings in CO2
Still, many households in Europe continue heating with obsolete boilers. This increases the heating costs, pollutes the air and pollutes the environment due to higher CO2 emissions. If we compare different heating systems, the choice is clearly in favour of pellet heating systems. The greatest potential for savings in CO2 is by using a CO2-neutral energy-carrier such as pellets. “Especially in home-heating ambit, to switch to renewable energy sources is necessary. Here, pellet heating systems offer the ideal solution” says Herbert Ortner. Depending on the energy consumption, with each new pellet heating system an average of 6 to 11 tons of CO2 can be saved per year.
Environmental and climate protection as driving force
As the international market development shows, pellets are not just a trend, but a key technology for the supply of heat for the future. One of the strongest reasons for this development is the growing awareness of the serious consequences of climate change and the need to use new technologies that will lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Pellet reduce particulate pollution
All installed pellet boilers in Austria together causes one-thousandth of the Austrian fine-particles emissions. The replacement of an old solid-fuel boiler with a modern pellet heating system brings a reduction in fine-particles pollution of 90 - 95%. As a result of an efficient combustion technology, the fine-particles caused by pellets also contain little soot and consists primarily of harmless water-soluble potassium and sodium salts.
More than 30,000 ÖkoFEN pellet heating-systems in operation across Europe
In the year 1997, ÖkoFEN was the first Austrian manufacturer to offer a automatically working pellet heating system to the public. This pioneering activity had wide ranging effects throughout the industry and represents the beginning of a period of extraordinary market development.
In 2004 ÖkoFEN launched a pellet heating system with condensing technology, a world first.
With over 30,000 pellets heating boilers actually in operation across Europe, ÖkoFEN is Europe's Specialist in pellet heating and is leading the industrie with continous technical developments.
