ASME certified units are available for US customers
The first three systems made in USA to ASME standards have been shipped
After getting the systems certified to UL standards in summer 2009 the next step was to go for the very important ASME stamp.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is one of the oldest standards-developing organizations in the world. It produces approximately 600 codes and standards, covering many technical areas. The largest ASME standard, both in size and in the number of volunteers involved in its preparation, is the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). BPVC is a standard that provides rules for the design, fabrication, and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels and is reviewed every three years. Since this stamp is known as a sign for quality and safety some states require it by law or in their guidelines for grants.

The concept of ÖkoFEN for the US market was always built on a local production and a product “made in USA”. This goal was now combined with the need for ASME certified systems and has led to a very fast development. Together with an US partner the systems were adapted to the requirements of ASME. Afer a lot of engineering work the units were finally welded by the US producer and are therefore eligible to bear the ASME H-stamp.

"One has to be able to react to the needs of the markets very fast these days. Especially in a market like North America, which is currently building up, it is crucial for our company to fulfill the pioneer role and to be first. As far as we know, no other producer of fully automatic pellet heating systems is able to offer an ASME certified product. We can provide a real alternative to fossil fuels with our product. It is not only carbon neutral and cost saving it is also good for the local economy because we are actually creating real jobs in the US.” says ÖkoFEN CEO Herbert Ortner about the newest developments on the US market.

Since ÖkoFEN entered the US market in summer 2009, with its partner Maine Energy Systems (MESys) for distribution and its partner Maine Eco Pellet Heating (MEco) for production, a lot of progress has been seen. First of all, the very important UL certification was achieved. After that about 60 contractors were trained by CEO Herbert Ortner in Maine. As a result a good number of systems were sold and installed for this heating season. And now finally, the first locally produced and ASME certified units could be delivered to customers in Maine and New Hampshire.
“We are looking forward for the next year to come. There is a lot of work to do but I think we are on a very good way and - the most important thing of all - found the right partners in this new market.” concludes ÖkoFEN CEO Herbert Ortner.
